A victory was expected for the National Whatsapp Mobile Number List (Morena), and its satellites, in the elections to elect members of Parliament, governors and mayors on June 6. A resounding victory that confirmed the balance that emerged from the 2018 avalanche and strengthened the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador. However, it was an election in which, in the absence of presidential passion and with a low turnout typical of midterm elections, the government forces backed down without losing the absolute majority in Congress and expanded their territorial control. And the opposition, gathered in the Va por México coalition, advanced but without managing to change the composition of the Chamber of Deputies.
Although Morena is confirmed as the first Whatsapp Mobile Number List party with more than a third of the votes in its favor and wins important governorships, it failed to meet its growth expectations. The Obrador movement lost the necessary majority to propose constitutional reforms, depends on the Labor Party (PT) and the Green Ecologist Whatsapp Mobile Number List (PVEM, which is not actually an environmentalist) for parliamentary daily life and shows worrying limits in various localities, such as the Mexico City, where several mayoralties were left in the hands of the opposition alliance that united the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), the National Action Party (PAN) and the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD).
Regardless of the data, which does not radically change the political scenario, the symbolic balance of the battle leaves the Obrador disappointed but not defeated and the opposition comforted but not a winner. However, more than the merits of the Whatsapp Mobile Number List right, the underlying political fact that emerges is that Morena and her allies, the coalition Together We Will Make History, seem to pay the price of their own contradictions. The project of the Fourth Transformation (4T) thus shows its limits and opens a flank that could resurrect -earlier than expected- the most conservative and reactionary forces in the country.
